Treating Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) Promptly

Amblyopia is closely linked with the early development of the brain and its relationship to the eye. For that, experts say, it is important to address the issue of children as soon as it is detected.

Treatment that stimulates vision in the weaker eye can improve the development of the brain involved in vision. If you want to know more about amblyopia treatment then you can search various online sources.

Even in the adult brain may be able to adjust a bit to "turn on" the weak eye if, say, an accident drastically changed the vision or cause blindness in a strong currency. However, the effectiveness of treatment usually drops dramatically as the children get older.

The cause of amblyopia generally falls into three categories:

  • Anisometropia: the unequal refractive power in the eyes – eg one that is near-sighted, far-sighted one.
  • Strabismus: A person can not align their eyes, so they can be pointed in different directions.
  • Eye problems such as cataracts, droopy eyelid or scarred cornea.

As a result, amblyopia may be referred to respectively as refractive amblyopia (caused by anisometropia), amblyopia Strabismic or deprivation amblyopia.

Before amblyopia can be treated, the eye doctor said the cause must be addressed. So that probably means getting glasses with different prescriptions in each lens to correct anisometropia.

Approaches to address strabismus including special glasses with prismatic lenses that are thicker on one side or the other eye muscle surgery and to improve alignment.

Once the cause of amblyopia has been dealt with, the focus shifts to rehabilitate the eye-brain relationship so that children can regain full vision.
